CCG has signed an agreement for the project “The Re-planning, Rehabilitation, and Revitalization of King Abdullah I Park into King Abdullah II Entrepreneurs Business Park” of which the proposed design submitted by Jafar Tukan Atelier of CCG has been selected as the winning design entry of the national competition held for that purpose.
The project is considered an “innovative, inspiring and dynamic center in the heart of Amman aiming to give the city its park back as an open public space.” It is set with the main objective to host entrepreneurs of different specialties within a modernized and rehabilitated public park. King Abdullah II Entrepreneurs Business Center (The Nest) is the anchor component newly proposed to the park’s program. It will house start-ups and businesses of different specialties and fields. The design for The Nest is intended to remain low-rise and grounded, so that it is integrated and connected with the components and the flow of the entire park, without imposing on it.
Architect and urban designer, Shereen Aswad, the project manager said, “The vision was to plan for a sustainable public park, to activate it as an inclusive public space and re-invent its unique character. The amendments to the existing park and the proposed architecture of the new component (The Nest) were highly integrated, spatially and programmatically. The amendments to the park reinvent and accentuate its original identity including by reconnecting and programming disjointed components, while the strong solid geometric surfaces and multi-leveled pedestrian experiences are integrated with stairs and rooftops. The three-level Nest is terrained, inclined and cascaded to resemble a building that is emerging from ground as a continuation of the landscaping of the park. This enhances the idea that The Nest is an extension of the park and not intruding on it. It is humble and grounded without an embellished addition to its skyline but rather unpretentious and belonging."
